Art Movement: Post- impressionism
Reference Artist: Vincent Van Gogh
Theme : Environmentalism

Introduction:
I choose Environmentalism as my theme because i think that what happens in the condition of the environment effect our daily life. And the second reason is I found  lots of post-impressionism art work that related to environment. Such as drawing the view and daily life of people.

Problem Statement:
Environment pollution has been a issue to the society for a very long time. It shows how irresponsible of the people who living in the earth. As I mentioned above, the condition of the environment effect our daily life, such as chemical substances from pollution, harm our health.

Purpose of content:
To show how irresponsible human can be to the environment and our lovely earth, To show how heartbroken people who really love the earth feels.

Research question:
How does the environment looks now and the future if people don't stop polluting it.
How does the people feels and how can they help to improve it.

Death River
This sketch shows about water pollution. In some country this had already happened. It is so sad to see river are polluted by chemical waste from the irresponsible industrial factory. Living organism can't survive in the river anymore.

Endless Waste
This sketch was inspired by the recently issue about "Lynas" the rare mining company setting a factory in Malaysia. Radioactive industry causes radioactive pollution by producing unwanted radioactive waste. Some of the radioactive waste might be left over in the earth for billions of years. It can also spread through the air, and might harm people's health by causing cancer. Some radioactive waste can even be cleared away.

End of the Ocean
What i wanted to show on this sketch is the pollution of the sea. Sea water are not as clean as last time. Sea pollution can be caused by oil leaking or industrial waste from the factories. Living things in the sea can't survive. The worst part is human eating polluted seafood and it will harm their health.

Diamond in the sky
What i wanted to show in this sketch is how people feels when the mother earth is getting hurt. From the sketch, there was a boy kneeing down praying to the stars above which represent heaven. Forest being cutting down, factories are built.

Masked Toxic City
This sketch shows that what will happen in the future if people don't take action to the environmental problems. People are wearing a mask all the time, due to the polluted air, no matter you are a boy or girl, kid or adult, even animals need to wear a mask to survive.

Back Home after the Acid Rain
This sketch is about the acid rain. Acid rain is caused by emissions of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides which react with the water molecules in the atmosphere to produce acids. The sketch shows that after the acid rain, clothes which soak with the acid rain corrodes.

Path to heaven or hell
This sketch represent people who live in the earth have choose to save the earth or harm the earth.
They have to choose the right way how they or their future generation would live.

Little help from our friends
This sketch shows that the way how people can help against environment pollution. People can save the environment alone but environment can be save by a lot of people. So, tell your friend, tell them the importance of saving the earth.

Silence Struggle
This sketch shows that how people who really love and cares about the earth, heart broken. Sometimes they just felt hopeless and frustrated because nothing has changed in the environment. Temperature is increasing  due to global warming but it doesn't seems like a lots of people cares. The guy in the picture cover his ears with a headset because of noise pollution, and the mask for air pollution. What he can do is remain silence and do what he can to save the earth.

Perceptual Art VS Conceptual Art

Perceptual art - Sensory
Conceptual art - Though

Perceptual Art
Perceptual is the thing that we saw so, perceptual art can be say as the engagement of multi-sensory experiential stimuli combined with the multiplicity of interpretive meanings on the part of an observer.

Example of Perceptual art:

Conceptual Art
Conceptual art is a contemporary form of artistic representation, in which a specific concept or idea, often personal, complex and inclusive, takes shape in an abstract, nonconforming manner, based upon a negation of aesthetic principles.

Post Impressionism
Post-Impressionism is the term used to describe French art from the period of 19th century and early years of 20th century. It was invented by Roger Fry as he prepared for an exhibition at Grafton Gallery in London in 1910.Post-Impressionism follows Impressionism. The artists involved were influenced by Impressionism although their work shares few similarities. Disinterested in recording light and color phenomena, Post-Impressionism is characterized by bright color, sharp, often outlined edges. In pursuit of individual goals, theories, and interests, they don't work or exhibit together.

Example of Post-Impressionism artwork:
The Swineherd, by Paul Gauguin

Gray weather, Grande Jatte by George Seurat

Vincent van Gogh self potrait

Vincent van Gogh was born in 30 March 1853 and died in 29 July 1890 by committing suicide The art movement of van Gogh is the post impressionist movement. Vincent van Gogh intensified Impressionism's already vibrant colors and painted them thickly on the canvas. Van Gogh's energetic brushstrokes expressed emotional qualities. Therefore, we see him as an off-shoot of Impressionism and a proponent of Expressionism. Van Gogh is also the pioneer of expressionism.

"The Starry Night" was the artwork painted by Dutch post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh.

Van Gogh painted "The Starry Night" by the view outside his sanitarium room window at night. The Starry Night is a painting about Van Gogh's view of the cosmic order. The powerful forces of heaven are seen in the night sky, rolling over a slumbering earth. The church in the middle seems like making an attempt to connect with heaven and the cypress tree in the foreground which represent nature, succeeds in reaching heaven.

Element of design
There are some element and principles that set van Gogh artwork style. The first element of design in this artwork I saw is line. Van Gogh used rough black lines to paint the sky, the wind, the tree, that gives us a primal and winding feeling
The second element and of design i saw in this artwork is colour. Van Gogh used blue colour majorly in this artwork. Blue colour mostly is the colour that represent sadness and gloomy. The bright yellow colour moon and stars give us the feeling of hope. It also can be said as Heaven represent happiness, the houses below represent depression.

Tone that also called as value is also another element of design i saw in this artwork. Von Gogh painted this artwork with different tone. the sky is painted in brighter blue, and the house in the land are painted in darker  blue.

The Shape are mostly curve, such as the tree and the church.

Texture is implied in "Starry Night." Van Gogh's heavy brushstrokes cause the painting to appear to have a rough texture. The painted lines in the sky and on the tree in the foreground of the painting look three-dimensional. The texture creates contrast, and makes the hills and stars in the painting seem emphasized and on a different plane from the rest of the elements.

The scale of this artwork is 72cm x 92cm

Principles of design
Gradation- the colour of the painting from warm to cool. From the warm colour yellow to cool color blue.
Balance- Starry Night looks balanced because it looks like the town weighs as much as the cypress trees.

Repetition - The houses are different in size.
